What are the roles human resources plays within an organization?

Introduction
Managing human being is one of the most difficult subjects in the world. People thought it has theories and procedures which sometimes can apply in differences setting. If somebody could learn about it well, he may be thought to know how to manage people. But it is actually not. If so, what is human resource management? If somebody think human beings as a robot, it will be easier. But in reality, they are not robots, they have feelings, believe, ideas and so on. They also have different background, different culture and different life stories. It means we are living in the world of diversity. So, managing human means we are managing diversity or understanding the mindset of each person.
Role of HRM in Organization Todays
Nowadays, the role of HR manager is broader. The needs and wants of human beings are also wider. Then, the change in technology is very quick. Everything is moved to digital. We are now living in the era of digitalization. The life of human being is more and more complex. In the past, HR is mostly concerning with hiring and firing. Even in some organization, they don’t have any HR department in the past. Nowadays, the role of HR is much more than that. Human resource is the foundation of every organization. Even you have financial capital, if you don’t have human resources, you cannot even form an organization. If you don’t have a strong human resource, you can never build a strong team.
According to HealthField, there are three new roles of HRM. These are strategic partner, Employee advocate, and change champion. (Heathfield, 2018) HR managers are not only the staff in the organization, they should also be a strategic partner for the organization. They should think of all perspective of organization. If he could not see the whole picture, he will be hard to do successfully his tasks. Not only that, he should also advocate the employee. He should use various kind of talent management strategies to improve and find the talents of each employee who will bring the success of the organization. He should also be a change champion. The HR manager should have the courage to change. He shouldn’t live in comfort zone and change according to the job satisfaction of the employees. If most employee is feeling uneasy in the organization, there may something be wrong. HR manager should find a solution and be a change manager.
Competencies of HR Manager
As HR manager have such an importance role, he should have some competencies. If he is less competent, the organization will surely be less efficient or get less profits.
According to Mayhew, there are four competencies for HR manager. Firstly, he should be competent in communication. Without good communication skills, he will never bring good employees for the company or organization. Second, he should have analytical and critical thinking skills. As he is sitting in all the staffs’ interview, he should analyze the answer of the prospect employee and think critically the behavior, attitude and capacity of the interviewee within a short period. He also analyzes the job satisfaction and performance of all staffs whether they are heading to the vision, mission and targets of the company. Thirdly, he should have the ability to build a good relationship with the Boss and the employees. Without it, the organization would be weak and hard to become a strong team. Fourthly, he should have certain leadership skills. Even he is not the leaders of the company directly, he is the leaders of all the staffs from other perspectives. He is responsible for the development and job satisfaction of each employee. It means he is leading the whole company in other ways. (Mayhew, 2018)
The Competencies of HR Manager in the Future
Everything is going digital. The era of digitalization is bursting. The digitization of the job nature and human life is seen everywhere. The nature of job and employment will also be changed in the recent years. Later, the changes could be more and more. So, the competencies of HR manager should also be broader. The most necessary skills for future HR manager could be managing human resources through IT technology. Even today, there are a lot of remote workers. It will be more in the future. So, digital skills are essentials for future HR managers.
But the current competencies cannot be changed. Even though the technology is changing, managing human resources will be the management of diversity and the mind of each employees. The medium will change, but hard to change the nature of human being. The world will be quicker, but the changing nature of human mind will never change. If the HR could manage the quick changing nature of human being, the current competencies will still be essential in the new digital eras.
Functions of HRM
As the roles and competencies of a HR manager change according to the change of the world, its functions become wider and wider. Starting from hiring and firing of the staffs, nowadays HR manager are leading the whole team and managing the diversity and developing new strategies for improving the capacities of each employee and increase the productivities of the company. Functions of HR manager these days are finding a competent and efficient employee, orientation, building the necessary workplace skills of each employee, setting job satisfaction and talent management strategies, analysis of staff performance, solving the team conflicts and firing the employee which are not fitted for the workplace or do not follow the serious code of conduct.
Conclusion
Actually, the role, competencies and functions of HR manager are much more than that. It depends of the conscience of the HR manager. Managing human resources is not the method and procedures. It is about managing them with the heart, wisdom and understand people from their sides.
