Performance Appraisal Methods

SMART objective setting brings structure and identifiability into your objectives and targets. Instead of dubious goals, SMART objective setting makes unquestionable directions towards a specific goal, with clear achievements and an estimation of the achievement of objectives (SMART Goals – How to Make Your Goals Achievable, n.d). Each objective or target, from delegate venture to general goal, can be made S.M.A.R.T. what's more, in that capacity, conveyed nearer to the real world. In corporate life, SMART objective setting is a standout amongst the best but least utilized apparatuses for accomplishing objectives (SMART goals, n.d). When you've diagrammed to layouts of your undertaking, it's an ideal opportunity to set explicit go-between objectives. With the SMART agenda, you can assess your targets. Savvy objective setting additionally makes straightforwardness all through the organization. It clears up the manner in which objectives appeared, and the criteria their acknowledgment will comply with.
In my past experience, I did have performance evaluation based on the objectives set for us. These objectives were clear to us. They were realistic goals which were formulated by the senior management and quality department. They had standards to measure them, and results of each employee were measured against these standards. We were given a target with certain quality benchmarks. We were given just enough time to meet this deadline, never too much or too less. At the end of each evaluation timeframe, along with the results of our performance, we had a meeting with our manager and senior manager to discuss our performance, behavior and future goals. We were given grades and promotion as per our performance. Training needs can be discussed in this meeting too.
I would like to cite the three important job responsibilities from my previous workplace which is a multinational bank where I was a service escalations manager.
1.      Resolution of escalated cases of customers.
2.      Provide management with unique cases with feedback to officers involved.
3.      Prepare monthly reports to the senior management.
SMART Objective for resolution of escalated cases of customers and feedback to officers involved.
Specific- To manage and keep a file for all escalated cases every day at the end of my workday.
Measurable- To keep checking the list and check each account to ensure there are no other issue which needs attention and provide feedback to the officers involved in the case.
Attainable- Follow up with the customers through phone or email and contacting the operations team to resolve the technical issues at the earliest possible time.
Relevant- The cases need to be resolved on a daily basis to avoid any delay which can result in an irate customer and the case getting escalated further.
Time-bound- All cases need to be followed up and updated within 2 days or the time intimated to the customer to ensure timely resolution.
SMART objective for preparing monthly reports are
Specific- To publish 12 monthly reports in a year for maintaining a record for the bank.
Measurable- To call up customers to ensure that there is no other issue that they are facing.
Attainable- Setting-up a meeting with the Senior Team Manager to report the cause of the highest number of escalated cases and review and discuss solutions and potential remedies to avoid the situation in the future.
Relevant- Resolving these cases gives a personal satisfaction of helping someone and I gain financially as well.
Timely – Each case has a standard resolution period set up by the bank which needs to be taken into consideration. All cases needed to be followed up with the customer through phone or email within 2 days after which a report had to be submitted at the end of the month.
SMART method was extremely effective in performing my responsibilities well. This method has extremely clear objective as well as the action to be taken is well. It enhanced my ability to perform better at my job. They provided structure and guidance throughout the task. When the S.M.A.R.T. objectives have been identified, it's basic to set up an arrangement to accomplish them. To help with execution, we need an instrument like a smartsheet that empowers us to design, track, oversee, and give an account of your objectives progressively (The Essential Guide to Writing S.M.A.R.T. Goals, 2019).

What are the Cultural Makeup We are Unaware Of?

Having a thorough understanding of cultural influences and components is a prerequisite that helps employers and the human capital managers tolerate and better manage individuals and employees with cultural differences to avoid misconceptions and altercations due to “cultural misunderstandings” (Lynch, 2017).           In as much as there are tangible aspects/elements of culture such as dressing, language, food, etc., the biggest components of culture are actually hidden beneath the surface. This comprises of the invisible values and rules that differentiate one culture from the other (Penstone, 2011). It is always difficult to use the rule of culture to interpret the components of another culture. Crucially, the tangible and visible aspect of a culture is usually influenced by the hidden components, such as values, notion, attitudes, and assumptions (Penstone, 2011). Edward T. Hall in his 1976 theory de...

how can HR Managers help raise the cultural intelligence of an organization.

I will start by saying that, I have worked for 2 employers so far in my 12 years career and I do not think the HR took any substantial step to raise cultural awareness. Saying that I will share my thoughts on what the HR can do.             I have always worked in multinational companies with people from various national backgrounds. While working regardless of cultural differences you are supposed to know your work and deliver. So, there is no bonding or cultural exchanges happen. But someone like myself who worked in multiple geographies can easily distinguish between work culture in India, USA, and Australia.             So, first thing, HR can do, before sending employees in foreign assignments they can train them about the countries culture and people. Along with any other training that is useful. In fact, I would say, learning the language and being able to follow accent i...

How the four areas of cultural intelligence aid a leader in understanding culture as well as intercultural efforts?

The introduction to this Unit points out that technological and globalization have taken our interdependence with our work colleagues outside the office. We are now connected in so many ways, to so many people, from so many walks of life. Such, often unintentional, interconnectedness changes the rules about how we need to think about the world and how we need to interact with the people we meet in it. Cultural intelligence can help us negotiate this new world, help us engage people, “create systems of inclusion” (Saylor, 2012, p.188), and thereby be more included ourselves. The four areas in which cultural intelligence will significantly improve our understanding of culture and intercultural work are; reframing, adaptive work, systems thinking, and consciousness. (Saylor, 2012, p.187) Cultural intelligence is our ability to successfully adapt to unfamiliar cultural settings. (Saylor, 2012, p.68) Reframing, adaptive work, systems thinking, and consciousness are all part of our cult...
