You have been hired as a consultant to help Red Lobster recruit management level staff. They have asked you to design an overall strategy that will help create job descriptions to improve the fit between its new management hires and its new business strategy. Job descriptions should help convey the importance of the Restaurant Manager position within the company and also in the restaurant itself. The process you design will help them, later on, develop other restaurant job descriptions for the service-level staff.
Red Lobster is a casual-dining seafood restaurant in the US and Canada, that has over 670 locations and employs more than 63,000 people. Red Lobster decided to develop a new business tactic that focuses on significance and improving its image; establishing a new vision, mission, and goals. This restaurant chain simplified its menu and uniforms for its employees, as well as fixed up its image added new techniques and materials to the company (Phillips & Gully, 2009). Although Red Lobster had not had any problem with hiring restaurant managers, the company didn’t feel that their old job descriptions expressed the desire and creativeness that the new strategy entails from its employees. They want their job descriptions to help hire employees that are motivated and can make customers feel welcome upon entering the establishment and creating an everlasting positive experience (Phillips & Gully, 2009). So, the company hired me, as a consultant to help the recruitment process.
A job description is a basic HR management instrument that helps to increase individual and structural effectiveness (“Getting the Right People”, n.d.). According to an article on the What is Human Resource website, it states
“Job design is the process of

c) Making optimize use of job/work-time so that job/work-time should not be wasted as time is money and time cannot be earned, but can be saved by making efficient use of it.
d) Avoiding manual task if can be handled by machines or automated.
e) Synchronization of work, and no conflict with other jobs
f) Deciding the relationship which exists in the organization.
Job design gives framework to job analysis as it tries to figure out what qualities, skills and other requirements are needed to perform the given job by a job holder” (“Job design - Process of job design - Approaches to job design - Theories of job design - What Do Candidates Look For In A Job?”, n.d.).
